Geography Request 1 - Eclectia

Hi gang.

I'm working on the general geography for the various locations in the Avenir universe. From time to time, I'll be posting Geography Requests to ask my fellow writers to tell me in a general way where their stories are set—i.e.: for Eclectia, Northern Polar Sea, Southern Polar Sea, or in between. As you no doubt can guess from the fact that this one is numbered, I expect this will be an ongoing process. I'll also be going through the backlog of published stories looking for mentions of place names so I can pester people for information.

One of the reasons I think this is needed, is the real possibility that, as we get deeper into our world-building, there's the very good chance we may start stepping on each other's toes or trip over each other. I'm of the opinion that working out the lay of the land will make it much easier for us to keep track of things in our own stories and in those in which we're linking with other writers.

Grace will send my email address to you on request, and I'll ask her for that of any I don't hear from.

In the near future, I'll be working on the geography of Avenir itself, then Sheba, Quatermain, and the ice stations.

Stay tuned.

  1. Hmm, crickets. Okay, I'll start the ball rolling. Christchurch, the underwater habitat, is located under Eclectia's South Polar Sea.

See, nothing to it. It's perfectly safe and nothing's going to jump out at you and--AAAAGGGGGH!!! *sound of various meaty objects landing on ground*

  2. Not Crickets. Internet Explorer that won't let me comment at work. Have to come home and get on line with Google Chrome. Then I can comment. :)

Take the most populated areas of Eclectia and start walking away. The one of the last settlements that is acknowledge by the government and policed by the Enforcers is Last Stop. It's the last place to to get fuel and supplies before you enter into the great beyond. Last Stop is located in the High Country.

Beyond Last Stop the ground starts sloping up again as you ascend Mt Olympus. Without the proper equipment it is better to around it than up and over.
Beyond Mt. Olympus are located The Forbidden Lands, The Ruins (more than one area of ruins but often thought of as a unit) inhabited by The Hermits, and the island of Itsy Bitsy in the lake of Water Spout.
Also, there are other settlements that stand between 'civilization' and the great beyond that my miners can go to for supplies and that have assayers offices, but I haven't named them yet.
